How You Can Get The Best Throwing Knives

December 31st, 2011

It’s usually a good idea to understand some thing about what exactly makes for good knives before you go out shopping for them and make a purchase. And that way, when begin by using a good throwing knife, it’ll make your training to throw more effective as well.

Something you may not already know is that you don’t want a sharp set of knives for throwing. A sharp knife will only end up injuring you. Even if you do not throw it by the blade it is likely that eventually you could get injured by having the knife bounce back from a target and hit you. And I’m sure you certainly don’t want that to happen.

Don’t worry too much about the handle style you choose. Although, regular handles made of the same piece of steel as the knife are preferred by many knife throwers. And they look nice too.

Getting a basic shape of knife suits most people well. A good round knife will do very well and is very common to come by. Getting throwing knives with any parts sticking out is a certain no-no.

Fancy designs may look cool but any protruding parts on the knife will only end up getting caught on something and can limit your grip on the knife. Any parts hanging out will just make it harder to throw your knife.

When selecting your knife getting the proper weight is very important. Two hundred grams is a good all around weight for most people to start with. Any heavier than that and it will take too much strength for a beginner to throw the knife effectively. As well, a lighter knife takes much more experience to throw accurately. A light knife will also tend to wobble in the air.

The length of the knife is something else you should look at. Throwing knives that weigh 200 grams should be about 20 to 25 centimeters long.

Be sure to pick up and handle as many knives as you can when you go shopping for the optimum throwing knife. This will give you a good idea of the selection available and also how the different knives feel in your hand. And there is a huge variety of throwing knives available.

If you can find a local store to go to it is recommended that you handle every knife they have in stock. Try hold them by handle as well as the blade. If you fall in love with a particular knife go ahead and buy it. Fifteen dollars is about how much a good throwing knife should cost at most places.

The internet is a great place to search for throwing knives if there happen to be no stores that carry them in your neighborhood. While you won’t be able to actually handle the knives, the selection you will find is simply unmatched compared to just about any store.

Great Collections For Your In A Gourmet Kitchen

November 22nd, 2011

The easiest way to decide what you need in your kitchen is to first decide what it is you’re going to be cooking in there. The best suggestion I ever heard on this matter is to find 5 dishes you actually love. The dishes you like to find on menus at restaurants. The next thing you want to do is learn to prepare those dishes to your standards. This is going to take some time, and some research, but I promise you it is really worth the effort.

They say that professional cooks don’t like to talk about the way they prepare a dish or recipe, and I find this to be a fallacy more often than not. People generally love to talk about what they do, and enjoy appreciation for their hard work. So don’t be afraid to ask, politely, a chef how he makes a particular dish or what is in the recipe. Keep the question general, and you might be surprised about the tips you can pick up from a simple question. If she does not wish to share her knowledge, thank her and be on your way. It’s not like you can’t learn from a number of other sources what is in a certain dish and how to prepare it. No harm no foul. More often than not, I get great results by being attentive to the chef if only taking a quick look at his pots and knives.

Each of our 5 dishes are going to have a few nuances concerning the items required in their creation. But there are a few basics we want in our kitchen no matter what we’re going to put on our home menu.

The first item on the checklist is a set of good cooking chef knives. You can’t do much without chopping and slicing. A set of good knife is always worth the money. Generally they last forever. Every time I get offered something like a “life time warranty” I always wonder “whose life?” But in the case of a fine set of cutlery we don’t have to worry about things like that. In the higher echelons of fine cooking, a chef’s set of knives is part of the job interview process.

When you look at chef knives, you’ll notice they generally have a wide triangular blade which tapers to a “center tip”, which means both the back of the knife and the blade are gently angled to meet in a point at the tip.

This blade shape is ideal for allowing the blade to rock back and forth on the tip (using it as a fulcrum) when you’re chopping. It’s a great all-around, all-purpose knife for most of your kitchen. They tend to be a bit heavy, six to ten inches long with the most popular being eight inches. If you have never purchased or handled on a regular basis, start with an eight inch chef’s knife and get accustomed to how it feels before moving on to something bigger.

Why Are Puma Hunting Knives Very Special?

March 7th, 2010

For most hunters, a lot of them would say that you can’t go hunting without a Puma knife. As they all say, only a Puma hunting knife can satisfy the excellent hunter because of their sheer quality and efficiency. Most hunters would bring Puma hunting knives during the hunt to cut off any vegetation that might block their path or if ever they need to carve an instrument out of wood. Yes, wood. Don’t even laugh because when you are in the wild, you need to use everything which you can use when you are in the forest. Besides, the cave men used the earliest forms of knives to fashion other weapons of the hunt, so why shouldn’t you do the same?

Avid hunting aficionados know the uses of a good hunting knife are endless, and an exhaustive list would quickly prove that Puma knives are one of the most useful and versatile hunting tools on this planet. Due to this, we find ourselves during the time of hunting, which is in the middle of summer, so here are some of the reasons why Puma hunting knives are so special:

Whittling – Whittling is the craft of deliberately carving or shaving off pieces of wood in order to create an instrument, to shape or design one. You can start with simple objects, like whittling sticks into spears, arrows for makeshift bows, and the ever-needed sticks for roasting the marshmallows at night. If you need a good challenge for your skills, then try whittling sculptures like persons or animals. You can do this with the use of Puma knives.

Fixing – Of course, knives can be used for a variety of things when it comes to repairing or improving objects. A knife can take off rust, labels, paint, anything else that you can name of, huntive knives can scrape it off! A good knife can remove any irritating blurs on metal objects. A Puma hunting knife can always shorten objects, but they cannot lengthen an object! Another thing is that these hunting knives are a great alternative for any tools that you might need but it’s not present at that time. You can use it as a screwdriver, a scissor, or even a can opener when you need to open a can of beans for your dinner!

Building – I love building different creations with the use of my knife! A Puma hunting knife can indeed help you out, when you cut ropes, sharpen wooden sticks or carve wood!
