I find plenty of joy in learning a new language. I try to learn a new language each two years or so. I attempt to learn the language spoken in the country I’m about to tour. It sometimes takes me about 6 months to learn the fundamentals.

Advantages of Knowing Another Language
Learning a language not only means studying how to talk it but also studying how to read it. Spanish movies with Spanish subtitles is a great way to do this job. By learning to read Spanish, you can understand road signs, menus and instructions. This ability will come in extremely convenient when you are on tour in a Spanish talking country.

Learning Methods
There are numerous ways of learning a language. You could talk with pals as much as you can, which I believe is the easiest way because practice is the key. You may also go for classes but this will not suit people with tight schedules.

I choose to learn Spanish from CDs and Spanish movies with Spanish subtitles. The CDs provide me the basic parts of the language while the DVD’s give me an idea of how these parts work in real life. That said , I try and put into practice what I’ve been taught by
talking with folk who talk the language I am learning as often as I’ll so I feel comfy talking it.

I typically watch a Spanish film once with English subtitles on so I know the storyline. Then I watch it with the Spanish subtitles on.

Variety
There’s a wide range of Spanish films with Spanish subtitles conveniently available online. This makes learning the language all the more engaging as you would be totally immersed in the tale line. Some of the films available are critically acclaimed such as Pan’s Labyrinth and some enjoyed cult standing like El Mariachi.

Tip
Try hard not to force yourself to learn a new language. Make it into a past-time. It makes the educational process that much simpler. I have known many individuals who’ve picked up another language from simply watching foreign soap operas.

But watching Spanish films with Spanish subtitles alone is insufficient if you would like to be taught how to speak it. You would need confidence in order to talk a new language. In order to build confidence, you have got to practice talking it as much as you can. Do not worry about
messing up as correcting them is an indication of progress.

To summarise :

• Practice speaking a new language as much as possible
• Learn to speak as well as read in a new language
• Make learning a new language a hobby and less of a chore
