Gardening Methods For Home Gardeners

August 2nd, 2010

Many people worry about maintaining their gardens. Well you don’t need to worry anymore cause here you will see how to take proper care of your garden. Some of the methods are row gardening traditional way, square foot gardening, layered gardening and no-till gardening. However, it is important to understand that each one of these methods of gardening works only when used in the proper gardening situation. The beginner needs to remember to find the best gardening method for his required needs. It might be hard initially for beginners but it will become easy after a while. Each time is going to be much less troublesome.

The different methods I will be discussing may be used together or by themselves. These appear to have been used since the beginning of time. If you are a beginner and are wondering steps to start your vegetable garden, read the below mentioned gardening tips and follow them to effectively grow vegetables within your backyard.

Hopefully you’ll get use from all of these tips like the countless other people have. The secret is to avoid deviating from the basis of vegetable planting. Before deciding what method to use you need to decide what you would like to grow and also make sure you have the time that the chosen method requires. The methods of planting that will be discussed are: Single rows, wide row gardening and hills.

Single Row Gardening – Using these method, seeds are sowed in starting rows that have equal space between two seeds for the plants to grow well and spread their branches. The distance between two seeds is simply measured or based on the actual size of the mature vegetable plant. It’s great to understand that some plants will need more space than others. One example is beans being planted away from tomatoes.

Wide Row Planting – This is a method that is really good for plants that don’t need a lot of room to grow. Plants will grow in the most cramped environments. You can recognize these types of seeds because of their small size. Carrots and lettuce is a couple of example that comes to mind. Planting wide rows of lettuce will ensure the single rows becoming a wide row, eventually because of the wind.

Hill Planting – This is the preferred method of planting melons. In this type of planting, a mound of about 20 inches across and about 5 inches high. Then at around five equal distances, holes are poked on top of the hill. Then a seed is dropped in each hole. When the plants start showing up and are healthy, you will pull out all the plants but the two best ones. The hill planting system makes it easier for people to dress the plants with compost and manure.

Look for these and other gardening tips of mine. Good luck and remember to consider gardening organically to save the planet.
