How I Came To Spend An Afternoon Analysing Replacement Wiper Blades And Ended Up Settling On Flat Wiper Blades Manufactured From Silicone

August 13th, 2010

I had just set off to go to the local gym on a overcast day in august; you know the one’s that make up a lot of the British summer. Then several small drops of precipitation started to fall, and within moments these had turned in to a downpour. I turned on the wind shield wipers and all that happened was the rain smeared across the wind shield, leaving streaks right where I need to be looking thorugh it. This made it extremely difficult to drive safely as my visibility was impaired. At first I thought it was the wiper blades that were grimy, as they had not been used in a few days, so I tried using some wind screen wash to clean them, but this had little effect. My next thought was that I needed to purchase some new replacement wiper blades, but I had only bought them in the first few months of the year. It had bought a big name band and not the typical cheap generic ones that I usually frequently buy, as the cold weather had not only forced me to not use my vehicle, as it had too much power and no grip on the snowy and icy roads, but had destroyed the wiper blades while it sat there.

As I exercised I decided to go home and do some research on the internet about wiper blades. I know how very boring this sounds but I didn’t have anything else planned as my girlfriend was at work all day. I started by looking at the manufacturer of the replacement wiper blades that I had brought earlier in the year, and a little to my surprise they recommended replacing their wiper blades every half a year or so. This manufacturers was one of the biggest suppliers of wiper blades in the world, so I looked to see what alternative wiper blades they had to offer. After looking through all of their products, I did not see what I was searching for. This was a wiper blade that would last through the winter months, and would last longer than 1/2 a year. I did find what was called a flat wiper blades, which was a frameless design of wiper blade, and this meant there were no plastic or metal bits to rust or break in the winter months. There were also advantages in the working of the wiper blades, as the design guaranteed an even pressure along the entire length of the blade, making for a streak and jump free wipe. The frameless design on these flat wiper blades also looked very stylish and coupled with an increase in aerodynamic performance, made me what to buy them.

Looking at this company’s website had not solved anything, it made it more difficult to meet my demands on getting the right replacement wiper blades, as now I was looking for a wiper blade that would last the winter months, more than 1/2 a year and be a flat wiper blades. This was when I remembered my friend John, who liked to do some amateur rallying at the weekend in his old mini, and he had said he had to buy special wiper blades to last in thewinter. So I decided to give him a ring, and a 15 minute conversation later, he advised me to use silicone wiper blades. I went back to the computer, and it was not long until I found some information about silicone wiper blades, and they seemed to be just what I was looking for. This was because silicone wiper blades are hard wearing when compared to other ones, resistant to the cold, UV radiation, and chemicals. This gave them an useful life 3 to 5 times longer than the basic wiper blades. After a little more research, I found a company that offered wiper blades made from silicone and with a one year guarantee, which was exactly what I was searching for. These silicone wiper blades were not even that costly, they were a little more expensive than premium rubber wiper blades I bought at the beginning of the year, but if they lasted a year then the investment would be well worth it.
