Planning Is Easy With A DIY Wedding

August 20th, 2010

As soon as you get engaged you begin to realize how expensive it is to plan and host a wedding. Even smaller events can seem like they are breaking the bank. From food to favors, there are plenty of ways to add up the costs. The good news is, there are plenty of options for cutting costs. One major thing you can do is turn your wedding into a do it yourself project. When other brides are relying on vendors to provide everything from invitations to cake, you can put your craftiness to work and create a unique, personalized experience that will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Start by figuring out what you want to do and making sure you are ready to take it on. If you have been putting off Fix sewing machines or Sewing machine repair, you should act now. Set aside a space in your home for wedding crafts and begin thinking about what you can do to cut costs and create a great day.

Try to focus on a timeline for your projects. For instance, instead of starting with favors, begin with something needed before the wedding day. Consider what needs to be done in advance of the big day. If you are planning to send your guests save the date cards so they know to not make other plans on your wedding day, you can start with those. They are often similar to the invitations but simpler to make. If you practice with those, you will be able to whip up some great invites that fit the theme and feeling of your wedding in no time. Choose your wedding colors and get to work on sending save the dates as soon as possible.

Another expensive part of the wedding is the dress. Wedding dresses cost several hundred dollars and many can register into the thousands of dollars. Some brides invest more on their dress than their home. Instead of investing your life savings in the gown, make it yourself. Wedding dresses can be challenging to make, but it will be well worth the effort in the long run. You might also buy a used dress and turn it into a one of a king piece.

Food and catering costs are usually a big part of wedding expenses. While you may not want to be stuck in the kitchen all day for your wedding, if you are an expert chef, maybe you can whip up some dishes beforehand. At the very least, consider catering your own rehearsal dinner. It will save a few hundred dollars and not be as stressful as making the food for the wedding.

Finally, the decorations can be cheaper if you do them yourself. With a little creativity and time, even the most affordable, bland environments can look like wedding wonderlands.
